LTE equipment being installed in Apple Stores, iPhone with LTE radio supposedly being tested
Posted on August 16, 2011 | View CommentsThis probably doesn’t come as a surprise for me, including myself, but from recent news we’ve heard (aka a post on Engadget), some LTE equipment is being installed at Apple Stores, by AT&T. This comes after yesterday’s BGR find — where they found a property list file that has to do with LTE devices on iOS 5. The equipment at the AT&T store supports the 700MHz and AWS bands, bothof which are planning to be used by AT&T — if they get T-Mobile. Engadget was also told that the Apple store(s) in question are also trying to increase the number of floor salesman by 30%, for the apparent rush the everyone... -
Telecommunications Industry Association approves of AT&T/T-Mobile merger
Posted on August 12, 2011 | View CommentsThings are beginning to lighten up in the merger world, specifically for those two communication companies, AT&T and T-Mobile. The TIA is made up of some of the larger names in the tech industry such as Apple, Nokia, Intel, and Microsoft. TIA’s President Grant Seiffert said the following about the merger: “Combining the infrastructure and resources of AT&T and T-Mobile would help create a reliable, high-speed mobile broadband network and encourage a virtuous cycle of investment and innovation in America’s business sector, meet growing consumer demand for these services, and address the looming spectrum crisis. The potential benefits of the merger should be given substantial weight in the FCC’s review... -
FCC temporarily halts AT&T’s purchase of Qualcomm spectrum, speaks of T-Mobile merger
Posted on August 9, 2011 | View CommentsHere we go again, sadly. The FCC has come out today and announced in a statement that Wireless Bureau chief Rick Kaplan plans to stop the 180 day review time on AT&T’s proposed purchase of Qualcomm’s 700MHz spectrum. This doesn’t mean the end of the deal, but this does have a great deal to do with the planned merger, as it “overlaps” some of AT&T’s plans. Qualcomm’s VP of Government Affairs, Dean Brenner reached out to Engadget with an official statement: “The FCC should approve the pending AT&T-Qualcomm spectrum sale now because of the clear benefits to the public from the sale that stand on their own and are totally unrelated to... -
Chair of Senate’s Anti-trust Subcommittee seeks to block AT&T purchase of T-Mobile
Posted on July 21, 2011 | View CommentsBad news for any pro-AT&T users like myself, or AT&T themselves, the Chair of the US Senate’s Anti-trust Subcommittee (Sen. Herb Kohl, D-Wis.) is seeking to block the AT&T - T-Mobile merger. He had this to say: ”I have concluded that this acquisition, if permitted to proceed, would likely cause substantial harm to competition and consumers, would be contrary to antitrust law and not in the public interest, and therefore should be blocked by your agencies.” Top Democrats of the house also agreed, stating the following: “We believe that AT&T’s acquisition of T-Mobile would be a troubling backward step in federal public policy–a retrenchment from nearly two decades of promoting competition and... -
ITC finds HTC guilty on two of Apple’s patents, HTC prepares to fight back
Posted on July 15, 2011 | View CommentsSo far, Apple has been having a hell of a time in the courthouse, and I might say, this is a good thing for them. However, this is bad for HTC, clearly. The ITC has ruled that 2 of the 10 patents Apple accused HTC of infringing on in Apple’s favor; in other words, HTC was found guilty. If everything plays well for Apple, we can expect particular devices manufactured by the Taiwanese company to be banned from reaching US shores. Good for Apple favoritism, bad for those who love HTC. HTC general counsel Grace Lei responded back quickly with the following statement: “HTC will vigorously fight these two remaining patents through an appeal... -
iPhone 4S spotted running in the wild with T-Mobile?
Posted on April 25, 2011 | View CommentsAccording to the above image and a few others, an iPhone running on T-Mobile’s 3G network may be in the works, which unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past month may or may not make sense. T-Mobile is of course in the process of being rung-up by AT&T and seeing as that would be completed next March, there would be no point. The above image could just be a jailbreak, but all that confidential stuff on the lock-screen and the model being N94 (different from current models) speaks otherwise. It also has been spotted running an updated A5 chip. Yeah that’s a big deal, and it could... -
Survey reveals AT&T drops the most calls
Posted on April 6, 2011 | View CommentsCall me surprised. Actually don’t, you’d be a fool. A survey by ChangeWave Research has revealed that AT&T drops the most calls of any mobile network, at 4.6 calls per 100 (4.6%). Verizon unsurprisingly takes the lead in this survey with only 1.4 dropped calls per 100 (1.4%). T-Mobile is second at 2.3% and Sprint is third at 2.7%. AT&T reached out and said that a survey by GWS not so very long ago revealed a 98.6% success rate, or exactly the same as Verizon’s. Hopefully, AT&T’s upcoming LTE and current HSPA+ network’s will help that number drop more. Best of luck to you, because you will need it. ~ Jake Root Yes,... -
Woah! AT&T Purchases T-Mobile USA from Deutsche Telekom
Posted on March 20, 2011 | View CommentsDespite the fact I follow technology news quite vigorously, I did not see this coming at all. AT&T has announced today that they will be purchasing the US’s secondary GSM carrier from Deutsche-Telekom (based in Europe). The companies say it will take about 12 months for the entire thing to go through, if it even does at all. There are quite the number of regulatory hurdles they have to go over. When it’s all said and done though, goodbye T-Mobile USA, it will just be AT&T. Only one GSM carrier for the entire country. Win-win situation? Over-all, it will cost $39 billion (cash and stock). Because the networks are both... -

Posted on January 18, 2011 | View CommentsIf you are an Android buyer looking for a nice, full keyboard phone, with Android 2.2, HSPE+ speeds (4G) and want it all free. Then no, you’re not crazy, you are thinking about the T-Mobile G2. Engadget says it best,”Android buyers have never had it so Good”. About a month ago, maybe two, T-Mobile dropped the price of the G2 down to an amazing $50 on a two year contract. Now they are just saying to heck with and putting it out for free (on a two year). So if you don’t mind T-Mobile, want to test the warm, sweet waters of Android, T-Mo is looking like a pretty good... -
Epic Win: Have $50? Then a T-Mobile G2 is waiting for you.
Posted on December 13, 2010 | View CommentsIf you have recently purchased a T-Mobile G2, you may want to step away from you computer right now. T-Mobile really wants to sell some G2′s, the company just put their first “4G” phone up for $50 USD on a new two year contract (Web only deal). All of this via two instant rebates. Now the catch is, you have to be a new customer. Nope not even a T-Mobile customer with upgrades available has access to this deal. This means T-Mobile has two great phones, at two great prices. So if you’ve been waiting, do it, do it now. Source: T-Mobile. ~Zephaniah Washington Editor-in-chief.
