  • Looks like our Managing Editor and Android Correspondent Nicolas Wiggins just was OTA’d ICS (Android 4.0.3) to his Motorola XOOM. I however have not been so lucky. Start hitting that “check for updates” button. We’ll be back with our first impressions soon. NOTE: Nicolas is not a member of the Motorola Users Forum which leads us to believe the first wave of ICS is rolling out on a large scale. All Images Credit To: Nicolas Wiggins. Update: We decided to ask Motorola what the deal was. So far now official reply, but some of their fans are commenting in. Update 2: My tablet finally was able to pull the ICS...

  • Remember earlier this year how the Motorola XOOM was the first device to run on Android 3.0 Honeycomb? Well, the XOOM will also be the first tablet to run Ice Cream Sandwich. Android 4, as it will be officially known as, will be showcased along side the Galaxy Nexus on Wednesday morning in Hong Kong (it will be 6pm Tuesday night here in Seattle), and the XOOM should be the first device to get it OTA within the next few weeks, but it isn’t clear whether it will have it before or after the Galaxy Nexus drops in early November on Verizon. Stay tuned for more ICS info, tomorrow night...

  • I was just about to check some email on my XOOM when I get a nice little pop-up message, telling me that my device had an OTA update ready for it. Naturally I click download and what do you know, Android 3.2.1 was waiting to install to my XOOM. According to information on the “restart & install” screen, this version (HTK55D) brings “security fixes” and “enhancements” to the XOOM. I’m not sure what those “enhancements” are, but I will update this article if I find anything amazing. According to Android Police, this is update is a bit slow to roll out to users, so you might want to see if...

  • Things are beginning to lighten up in the merger world, specifically for those two communication companies, AT&T and T-Mobile. The TIA is made up of some of the larger names in the tech industry such as Apple, Nokia, Intel, and Microsoft. TIA’s President Grant Seiffert said the following about the merger: “Combining the infrastructure and resources of AT&T and T-Mobile would help create a reliable, high-speed mobile broadband network and encourage a virtuous cycle of investment and innovation in America’s business sector, meet growing consumer demand for these services, and address the looming spectrum crisis. The potential benefits of the merger should be given substantial weight in the FCC’s review...

  • The war against the companies rage on, and in this week’s episode, we have Apple and Samsung and Germany. The country has decided in a hearing that, due to the design of the Tab 10.1, which is eerily similar to the iPad, all sales in the European Union will be halted for the tablet, except for the Netherlands. Samsung naturally responded to the hearing favoring against it (clearly), and will fight back at the ruling. This comes in light of Apple suing Samsung across the world for theft of intellectual property, in this case, the design of the Korean company’s 10.1 inch tablet. Apple hopes to block the sales of the tablet...

  • While normally, the UK seems like a great place, recent riots over the shooting of 29 year-old man by police have sparked some stores to relieve their main floors of product. This is seen in some Apple stores around the nation, the above being a good example. A statement from the store is as follows: “Above: Due To The Riots In England, The Apple Store In Liverpool One have moved all stock up stairs from the show floor.” Resellers are also getting into the action. This leads us to believe that this is an Apple mandated order and that all stores around London must remove their inventory from their ground...

  • To quote CNET’s Molly Wood on the Nexus Prime “this takes the mobile arms race and turns it into global thermonuclear warfare, in a good way.” Though she was talking about the rumored Nexus Prime, I feel she would say the same about this totally amazing rumor, that we really hope turns to fact soon. Motorola could have an Android Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4) tablet in the works. Now that’s exciting in and of it’s self, but lets look a bit deeper. This tablet could be packing a retina display murdering resolution of 2048×1536 (yes it 4:3, but this would be insane). Plus it apparently will be powered by...

  • The last thing any company wants is a recall — and Apple certainly isn’t that company. In fact, in recent memory, I can’t think of a time Apple had to recall something. Sadly, those days are somewhat over. Due to an issue the second generation iPad 2′s are experiencing, a small number of them have been recalled. The company told Reuters “Duplicate MEID codes were flashed onto an extremely small number of iPad units for the Verizon 3G network”. The Mobile Equipment Identifier allows a device to connect to the internet over a network. These numbers, self contained to each device (one code per tablet, no duplicates allowed) are sent to...
