To quote CNET’s Molly Wood on the Nexus Prime “this takes the mobile arms race and turns it into global thermonuclear warfare, in a good way.” Though she was talking about the rumored Nexus Prime, I feel she would say the same about this totally amazing rumor, that we really hope turns to fact soon.
Motorola could have an Android Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4) tablet in the works. Now that’s exciting in and of it’s self, but lets look a bit deeper. This tablet could be packing a retina display murdering resolution of 2048×1536 (yes it 4:3, but this would be insane). Plus it apparently will be powered by NVIDIA’s Quad Core Kal-El processor! It should also be thinner and lighter then the original XOOM! I am not sure words accurately describe how gitty I am just to think about this tablet in my hands some day. According to the rumor, that “some day” could be a soon as the end of this year or very early next year!
Now when talking about something this revolutionary, we have to remember that this is nothing more then a rumor. Something about this just seems a bit wrong. Like the fact that the source says that Motorola has had this tablet in the works for “some time”. It is possible that Motorla has been selected to be the one of, if not the first company to release a tablet running Ice Cream Sandwich and powered by Kal-El. But Motorola was also the first to make the first Android 3 (Honeycomb) tablet. The rumor also go’s on to say that Motorola has sent out some early version to testers. I don’t even want to know how long the nondisclosure form was for that. Personally I think this rumor is based in fact, but might be stretched a bit, but then again, the advances in tablet technology in 2011 alone make the impossible, possible.
I think if we see this tablet, in some form, wether XOOM2 or something else. I think we will see it at CES, or at Google I/0 ’12 (now that would be a great dev gift). No matter where this tablet is launched, the tech industry will surly have its eyes super glued to it. Now, as long as this tablet works near perfectly and the price is right, then the iPad is going to have to step up, or step out. The ball is in your court Apple, wow me. What do you think readers?
