Small number of Verizon iPad 2s recalled due to 3G issues

The last thing any company wants is a recall — and Apple certainly isn’t that company. In fact, in recent memory, I can’t think of a time Apple had to recall something. Sadly, those days are somewhat over. Due to an issue the second generation iPad 2′s are experiencing, a small number of them have been recalled. The company told Reuters “Duplicate MEID codes were flashed onto an extremely small number of iPad units for the Verizon 3G network”. The Mobile Equipment Identifier allows a device to connect to the internet over a network. These numbers, self contained to each device (one code per tablet, no duplicates allowed) are sent to the mobile carrier to allow the device to connect to the internet. When one or more of a certain product has the same MEID, neither can connect to the internet. If you find that your recently purchased Verizon iPad 2 cannot connect to the internet, just visit an Apple retail location or give ‘em a call to get a replacement device (do not fret, it’s free, obviously).
