Mac OS X Lion preview has been out for a while. Unfortunately, nothing major is sticking out from the current beta (or should I say, second to current beta). However, Apple has updated the preview to a newer version revealing some pretty cool aesthetic changes. One major update is the login screen. The login screen hasn’t changed much in the last 5 version of Mac OS, so this new upgrade is pretty sweet. To start, pretend you’re looking at the back of a Macbook Pro. That’s almost the design idea here — a brushed aluminum design stuck behind a matte black Apple logo (it isn’t white, so not entirely the same). Then, moving onto the user account area, the picture is now circular instead of square. Cool idea, and pretty nice for people like myself obsessed with aesthetic abilities rather than function. Moving down, we have three buttons, sleep, restart, and shut down, in order. That’s about it! Another nice feature is upon hitting enter to login, the login is no longer fading, it just appears to jump at you, revealing your desktop behind it.
Onto the next big thing: Safari Reading List. This is a pretty great feature for you blog nuts out there. The idea of the feature is simple: Shift-click on a link to add it to the Reading List, and you can read it later. This is great if you want to read a blog while driving down I-5 or flying around the world (or maybe to your local cemetery, never read and drive). This update is more of an appearance update rether than a feature update, to be honest. The first iteration was great, but now it features a spy-glass icon on the left side of Safari revealing the window. The window has 4 buttons up top: Clear All, All, Unread, and Add Page. These buttons are laden upon a nice grey window. Let’s move on…
Another nice feature of the update? NEW WALLPAPERS! Everyone loves them. Okay maybe not everyone, but a fair amount of people do. Apple has been known to feature some pretty wicked wallpapers in the past, and this update is no slouch: Awesome photography, nice shots of lions, and a few birds. Want them all? Hit the download link below. You know you want to. Don’t lie.
