Qualcomm’s new processors rival your laptop. Blow through 1080p Flash.

Qualcomm, the people behind the ever popular Snapdragon processor have developed a new platform. This platform is dedicated to high quality video play back through and on you Android device, with the new Qualcomm dual core processors and Adreno render engine 220. The new processor is the MSM8660. What it lacks in a name, the 8660 makes up for in GHz and performance. The 8660 has a clock speed of 1.5GHz and is a dual core chipset. This officially blows my Motorola XOOM out of the water in terms of clock speed, but the performance isn’t only noticeable in how many times I have to type “GHz” with numbers in front of it. The MSM8660 coupled with the new Adreno 220 video rendering platform allows for live HTML5 video streaming in browser as well as Adobe Flash streaming. However, it also supports full 1080p, on device playback of Flash content. That’s something even my XOOM can’t quite handle. All this is being demoed in Qualcomm’s new Mobile Development Platform (MDP). Now you may think “I should get in on this”, go for it. Of course you’ll need about $1,350 to blow on a phone. We would recommend waiting a few months for phones like the HTC EVO 3D and Sensation. If you’re in to tablets, then expect to see this new technology in devices like HTC’s Flyer and HP’s TouchPad. If all the numbers haven’t wowed you, check out the video’s after the break. In one of which the LG Optimus 2X get’s destroyed by the new platform in an Adobe Flash test.
