HAW: Amazon Kindle for Android – Version 3.

If you were wondering what HAW means, it stands for Honeycomb App of the Week. That’s right, a new segment to join the ranks of the Quick Hit and Epic Win. HAW is a weekly segment that will expose some amazing app’s for Honeycomb, both paid and free. We are going to kick this off with one of my personal favorites, the Kindle App for Android.

Today Amazon updated their ever popular Kindle App for Android to version 3.0.0. This is no small stability update –in fact in might be causing some instability, but more on that in a moment — it is a total UI redesign. The app is designed to work on the Motorola XOOM and other “large screen” devices. They’ve also incorporated the Kindle Book Store into the App. You no longer get whisked away to your browser when you want to purchase a book, the screen simply fades to reveal the store. These UI tweaks take major que’s from the Amazon App Store and the Menue’s in Honeycomb. This means that the overall browsing and purchasing experience is far quicker and easier to navigate. Other updates include the ability to pause and resume downloads, made it easier to look up words, and a German book selection of over 600 titles.

Now to that instability we mentioned. According to some users, the App fails to pass the splash screen. It either hang’s until you close the app, or it crashes and Android forces closes the program. I have not had this problem on my Motorola XOOM, but Kellen (Kellx) over at Droid Life has. We will keep out eye out for updates to fix the problem, and notify you of them here. Let us know what you think about the new Kindle app in the comments. Also let us know if you are seeing any instability.

If you would like to recommend a Honeycomb App presently in the Android Market, let us know here and we might feature it as Honeycomb App of the Week. Also, if you are a developer, share you App with us and you could be featured along with you App in an HAW.
