  • Engadget is reporting that they just heard from HTC that the “hotly anticipated” update to Android 2.2 (Froyo) will go to European Desire owners this weekend. As long as your phone is not carrier locked, With 2.2 comes a new 720p video mode and iTunes sync for your music. HTC is also throwing in its App Share widget that it first introduced with the Wildfire, along with its smart Caller ID feature. it’s quite a shame that operator-specific versions of the update are still stuck in testing and are expected “in several weeks’ time.” That will make us shell out for unlocked gear. PRESS: “The Android 2.2 (FroYo) update for...

  • We had been hearing for quite some time that Best Buy would be providing its own data connect service, we weren’t too sure about it though. The service we thought Best Buy would be launching was Best Buy Connect, we learned that was false. Now with company announcing its partnership with ClearWire we may be seeing a revival, but not a fast one. Starting sometime next year, Best Buy Connect will offer 4G wireless data over Clearwire’s WiMAX network. That is all that the two companies are saying about the partnership at this time, we are hoping that the rate plans and prices stay where they are, though more variety...

  • It looks like we are getting our first look at the LG VL600. A LTE 4G / CDMA modem card for Verizon (glad they named it something other than that). The card looks a little bit..well, chunkier than we would like, but that is the case with next-gen devices. We should see smaller devices soon. But what is a little chunk for faster downloads. • Well nothing is confirmed and things like this can change at any time. We’re at least hopeful to see some internal Sprint communication that they’re trying to get the EVO 4G updated to Froyo as soon as tomorrow, July 30. It’d be the perfect way to kick off the weekend, wouldn’t it? This is no normal 2.2 update, they are making some changes including preloaded widgets, a flashlight mode for the camera’s LED flash, light-assisted 720p video, and “improvement” to the quality of said video capture. But not all is glossy, it looks like the tether hack might be sealed up with this one (kinda Appleish). We are hopeful the...

  • Well over all we like to look of the myTouch 3G HD form the shot we have. Now we can see the palm side of the phone, you know the side with the camera. As seen on past models, the back of the phone has a tasteful small myTouch logo, a camera, and a plain back. Plus this image looks to be snapped off a monitor possibly displaying a hidden T-Mobile pages (drop shadows are not normally in the employee product manual). All of this gives the rumor some respect, we don’t really don’t have much reason to doubt. Considering that the Vibrant isn’t a member of the myTouch line,...

  • Well we have seen a few phones (Droid X) receive OTA updates to Android 2.2, but it appears that all Android phones shipping in or to China will come preloaded with 2.2 all HTC 2.2 phones will have Sense UI also. HTC has also reiterated that a 2.2 update for its phones already on the market will be delivered “very soon,”. So if everything plays out August will be dominated by Froyo (ahh the cool feeling of Android in your pocket). So you can stop complaining about updates at least until 3.0 (Gingerbread) comes knocking. Source: Engadget ~Zephaniah Washington AGRS Editor-in-chief
